performative lecture
2014
A performative lecture conflates secondary and primary audiences in speculating on and archiving a public art project that constructs a puzzle connecting several books through encryption in the Chicago Public Library system. Letters with cryptic messages found in books from the Chicago Public Library become a score. The visual language of bird vocalization, space time diagrams, circuit diagrams, and animal movement invoke gestures of coding and decoding that “reveal” text, in parallel to a system of encryption.
